There have been a few changes in the structure of categories. The total number of categories has been reduced to 45, and the main program fields (Oustanding Drama Series & Outstanding Comedy Series) have had the number of nominees expanded from 10 to anywhere between 10 and 15. Similarly, other competitive, non-program categories may now have 6-7 nominees at voters’ discretion.

Fields such as Editing, Cinematography and Production Design have been combined into two categories: Artistic/Visual Achievement honoring the work of directors of photography, art directors, and other visual artists, and Technical Achievement honoring the work of film editors, sound mixers and other professionals in technical areas. The mention of a specific nominated episode for each nominated performer has also been dropped, and actors are now the sole recipients of the Cast awards. Additionally, the Cast awards for Drama and Comedy also have an expanded list of nominees now, going up to 10 rather than the original 6.
